Today I would like to share my personal testimony!
After my service in the United States Air Force, I returned to college with plans aspirations of law and politics, but God had other plans and on April 25th 1966, I came to personal faith in Jesus Christ.
There had been so much wrong in my life. I grew up a decent kid, but pretty independent. I'm sure my sisters would say "spoiled" because I was the only and "baby" boy. I was never one to follow the crowd and I hated bullying and mistreatment of those who were less fortunate.
When I was barely a teenager I sensed God working in my heart but did not have anyone really share the Gospel with me, so I continued to live the life of a normal "church member" without Christ.
I joined the Air Force in 1961 prior to the Vietnam War and was sent immediately to Germany for three years, serving in the Chaplain's section as a "non-Christian", which made for some interesting experiences. While in Germany I began to live an ungodly lifestyle of immorality and alcohol. Being a musician, I worked with a country music band for awhile and then put my own Rock and Roll band together. We work Officer Clubs, NCO clubs, Teen Dances, etc. Nothing was very fulfilling, so when I returned to the U.S. I went back to college in Texas and continued to live life in the fast lane with "wine, women, and song".
In 1965 we discovered that my neice had bone cancer. We were very close, so I moved back to Georgia to be closer. To make a long story short, during her illness, I came to realize my need for Christ and was CHANGED on April 25th 1966. It was a Monday night, in a tobacco warehouse, where I HEARD the Gospel for the first time. Of course the Gospel had been preached to me before but I never HEARD with my heart until that night. The preacher of John Haggai (not to be confused with Hagee).
The following Sunday morning, my dad was speaking in a Southern Methodist Church in Albany, Georgia. At the end of the service, I asked if I could speak, and I shared with that congregation how I had come to know Christ the previous Monday night.
In no time word got out that Phillips got saved and withing two weeks I was asked to speak in another church, then another, then the Baptist, and on and on ever since. For all these years there have not been more than a dozen Sundays that I have not preached somewhere. I have often said that I was not "called", I was "thrown" into the ministry...and here I am today about to begin 2013 still preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As briefly as I can make it, THAT is my story! He has saved me, sealed me, sanctifed me, secured me, and completely satisfied me! And greater yet He is coming back to SNATCH me out of this world and receive me unto Himself! Hallelujah!
By the way...If you have not allowed Him to do this for you...He is waiting for you to let Him come into your life and do it!
