Now that the celebration of the birth of Jesus is over, what do we do? Well, I would suggest that we do precisely what He did, as He "grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man".
Okay, granted some of us may not need to grow anymore physically, but we all certainlly need to grow spiritually and in favor with God and man. So let's make that our goal for the New Year! What do you say? Let's put away childish things and let love and truth guide us and grow us as we seek FIRST God's Domain and His Disposition and Deportment. After all we have been promised that as believers "sin shall not have dominion over you".
One of the interesting things about growth is that it is a SLOW process. Imagine the difference between the baby Jesus, or any other baby, between the first and second days. The difference would be virtually unnoticable...unless, of course, it is your grandchild and then I am sure by the second day he/she is talking:)
Think of the text that says Jesus GREW...from the moment of conception the embryo develops into a fetus and a fetus into a baby with arems and legs and brain, and all the parts with which we are born. The Baby must then be nurtured and nursed, loved, cuddled, protected, etc, by someone else until the baby learns to speak, walk, etc. Then the small child must be taught to put words and thoughts together, ask for things, respond to parental directives and on and on.
Think about the whole process! It is the way God has designed us! Even Jesus had to go through the SAME growth process. He did not come knowing everything....He had to LEARN! Can't we understand that He was not born a carpenter, He had to learn from Joseph. He even had to LEARN obedience "by the things that He suffered". Did you ever hit your finger with a hammer learning to drive a nail? It is a part of the process of learning.
So let us determine not to be "know it alls" but to be willing to learn and grow as we walk with Jesus. May God help us not to swallow hook, line, and sinker, what someone teaches or preaches, but to be noble Bereans, and learn to search the Scriptures for ourselves to see whether or not we are being taught the truth.
