Psalm 27:14 (HCSB)
14 Wait for the Lord; be strong and courageous. Wait for the Lord.
Waiting is certainly not the easiest thing most of us have ever done. Waiting often depends upon “why” and “who”. A groom who patiently waits for the moment he takes his bride finds the wait well worth it, and vice versa. The hunter who patiently waits for his game certainly finds the wait well worth it when he brings home that game. We could find a thousand such scenarios that prove to us the advantage of waiting patiently.
My friends have been married for 50 years and he has never lived a day with his wife that he did not have to “wait” on her. He doesn’t grumble or complain or find fault; he finds things to do while he waits. It has become for him a way of life. He adores her so he waits for her.
Who or what we are waiting is a factor in determining how we wait. If one is waiting for news of a loved one’s biopsy, the waiting can be one of anxiety. If, on the other hand, one is waiting to be released from prison, it might certainly be one of great anticipation.
God never tells us to wait and do nothing! Our text says to be strong and courageous AS WE WAIT. Understand that we are not waiting because God is busy. We don’t wait for Him because another one of His children has pre-occupied His time. There is no line in which to wait for Father’s attention and care. BUT there is a necessity for us to be strong in faith and confident courageous about HOW God will respond to our particular situation.
I know that NO ONE loves me as He does. I know that NO ONE wants the good for me that He does. I know that He sees the beginning from the end and He knows all the angles, all the actions, and all the attitudes surrounding my situation. Hence I can be patient with a confident and courageous heart for HIM because He know how long I need to face this, how much stress to be applied to surface the hidden things in me, and He knows quite well how to finish in me what He has started.
Wait on the Lord, and while you wait strengthen your heart in His Word and build courage for whatever comes because He gives the grace to face it, fight it if necessary, and forget it when need be. He has NOT forgotten those He has forgiven, so wait patiently and at the right moment and with the right circumstances, HE WILL PROVE HIS WISDOM AND THE IMPORTANCE OF OUR WAITING.
BLESSINGS!
