Morning Moments

Psalm 21:1-13 (HCSB)

1 Lord, the king finds joy in Your strength. How greatly he rejoices in Your victory!

Who in a kingdom is more important or powerful than a king? Yet this king not only acknowledges, but rejoices in the fact that his strength and victory comes from the LORD. How wonderful it would be and wise if our leaders, be they national or otherwise would honestly and sincerely surrender to this blessed truth.

2 You have given him his heart’s desire and have not denied the request of his lips. Selah

This desire is another acknowledgement that even the desire for strength and victory comes from the LORD. James says, “If any lack wisdom, let him ask of the Lord…” Paul tells us that it is God who works in us both to desire and do the good pleasure of God”. God does NOT withhold from those whose heart is surrendered to him their desires. Carefully meditate on these things.

3 For You meet him with rich blessings; You place a crown of pure gold on his head.

God bestows abundantly upon this godly leader favors beyond compare, and a treasury of which a pure gold crown is placed upon his head. Paul told the Philippians that God supplies all our need ACCORDING to His riches in glory…” Does this mean that everyone who seeks the Lord finds prosperity and power? Of course not, otherwise He would be sought for those reasons alone. Furthermore, the subject does not need what the sovereign does.

4 He asked You for life, and You gave it to him— length of days forever and ever.

What a gift! In a world where man seeks continually to put off meeting God by longer life, we find a quality of life in Christ that is absolutely without comparison. It is a gift from God to those who abandon themselves to His mercy and grace. Those without Him are dead while they live, but those with Him NEVER die, but possess the very life of God within them.

5 His glory is great through Your victory; You confer majesty and splendor on him.

When is the applause of man without the approval of God? NOTHING! This sovereign knows he has a Sovereign over him. What is a kingdom without a king? The King of kings and LORD of lords is indeed king over all those who surrender to His kingship. Whatever glory the king gets comes as a result of his submission to THIS KING of kings.

6 You give him blessings forever; You cheer him with joy in Your presence.

The psalmist understands that what God gives He does not take away. God has promised us His presence, to be with us always, so this state of blessing brings joy to know that it will never end.

7 For the king relies on the Lord; through the faithful love of the Most High he is not shaken.

Being confident of God’s unconditional and unfailing love and his reliance upon that, the believer is never shaken. Troubles may come and go, trials may be small or great, whether there is attack or applause, still the saint of God is not shaken or shattered.

8 Your hand will capture all your enemies; your right hand will seize those who hate you.

Just as they persecuted the prophets before you, so will they also persecute you. But you must remember who your enemies really are. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, and powers; against the rulers of the darkness of this world.” The armor of God is our protection and only He can defeat the enemies.

9 You will make them ⌊burn⌋ like a fiery furnace when you appear; the Lord will engulf them in His wrath, and fire will devour them.

The enemies of God will be severely judged when He comes to the Great White Throne, but until that time, though they may prosper in this life they will burn in the next, where the worm dies not and the fire is not quenched, where there will be weeping and wailing and the gnashing of teeth. They shall be tormented day and night forever and ever.

10 You will wipe their descendants from the earth and their offspring from the human race.

They now may have children and grandchildren, but it will only be for a time and then the end will come for them eternally. The enemies of God – those who refuse and reject God’s way of salvation – will have no place in the eternal plan of God for humanity.

11 Though they intend to harm you and devise a wicked plan, they will not prevail.

The Lord knows them that are His and He is able to deliver them. Regardless of the scheming and manipulating of the wicked, we shall not be moved. “Our God will deliver us ultimately and completely.

12 Instead, you will put them to flight when you aim your bow at their faces.

The enemies of God may not fear us, but they will most assuredly fear Him and flee only to be captured and tortured eternally. As they have treated us, so shall they also be treated by Him who loves us and is our shield and buckler.

13 Be exalted, Lord, in Your strength; we will sing and praise Your might.

These are words of praise for Him who is worthy of praise and dominion, and power and glory, and honor and majesty for all eternity.

BLESSINGS!
