THE CARE OF A WIDOW
1 Kings 17:8 And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, 9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
There is much we do not know about this widow of Zarephath, but we do know this, that God was already working in her heart to care for the man of God. Someone has rightfully written that Elijah seemed quite an impersonal man. In other words, he had little time for trivialities. He was a man on a mission!
I have noticed through the years that God more often than not uses those with little means to care for His ministers. Often it is those who cannot afford to help in our ministries that do help. He uses the "little maids" or the "certain man" or the "widows" to care for His ministers. I love the way He does things and how special are those guided by His hand who are so essential to His work.
Remember the "Widow's mite"? The point is not how much she gave, but that she gave it all. NO ONE who gives to the work of the Lord without having to keep "records" about it, goes without the manifold blessing of God. He is no man's debtor. Jesus said if you give a cup of water to the man of God, you have given to Him.
Today, ask God to guide you to support in some way, small or large, one who is living, loving, and serving the Lord in ministry that just might need your help, whatever it might be, to sustain by even a bread and water gift.
BLESSINGS!
