When God says stay put that is exactly what you and I need to do, but when He says move on, we better have our bags packed.
1 Kings 17:1-24
We have previously considered verses 1-7. Today we shall consider 8-12.
Those who preach the Word must learn to live by the Word, regardless of the circumstances. Paul spoke of being full and empty, with and without, troubles and triumphs, and we must learn that all these things come to the man of God. Any lack that ever existed in my life existed because of me not God.
As Elijah obeyed and God led, he came to the village of Zeraphath which was just below Sidon and on the Mediterranean Sea. It was there the spotted a lady gathering sticks. One of the strangest things about the leadership of God is that the Spirit within providentially and personally leads us to the right people.
His request of this woman for water would not have been strange to her, but as she sought the water, the prophet asked her to also make him bread. In a hospital world with little, it might have been barley bread for the very poor or wheat bread for the not so poor. In any event the woman has very little meal and oil; hardly enough for a last meal for her and her son.
I love the way God does these things. Jesus did this with the woman at the well. He used his physical need to draw out her spiritual need. Jesus asked for water, but He offered a well of water in return. Here Elijah asks for bread and gives us barrels of what she laced in return.
When the woman spoke of her lack, it was as the feeding of the 5,000 by Jesus. He in essence said, "Don't worry about what you don't have, just give what you have and you will not lack." That is God's way. We tend to be more concerned about what we don't have than we are grateful for what we do have that we can offer God.
Today, don't think about what you lack, but think about what you have that you can and will give for God's use.
BLESSINGS!
