Morning Moments

Elijah: A Man Just Like Us

1 And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

There are certain things that are essential to life, one of which is food to sustain us. When crops rot in the field because of lack of rain everybody suffers. Taking away things sometimes just irritates us but when there is no food to eat we are driven to our knees.

We have all seen the results of hot weather with little or no rain. Streams and rivers dry up, crops cannot be irrigated, the earth is parched and so are the throats of people who desperately need the bare essentials of life. There was no importing or exporting. Where does one find drinkable water in a three year drought?

Doesn't it seem a little cruel for God to take such desperate measures? Not when we realize that the hearts of the people of God were being turned away by wicked national leadership. This was the case during these years and God was determined to get the attention of His people. What measures will it take for Him to get our attention?

So, the prophet, Elijah, from Tishbe in Gilead says to King Ahab, "It will not rain until I say it will rain." THAT was a major problem, but "no dewnor rain these years, unless I say so", was enough to infuriate a wicked king and his vicious wife, but they had not seen anything yet.

God speaks to men and women who speak to God. He still speaks today to those who will listen to Him and obey Him. BUT what He says is always consistent with His Word, never contrary to it. He still oversees and sometimes intervenes in the plans of man for the purpose of either drawing them to His heart or pushing them farther away. Which does the Word from God do for you? Is your response, "Whatever You say I will do" or is it "I will do as I please regardless of what God's Word says."

"Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you; resist the devil and he will flee from you." Elijah listened and obeyed, and we must do the same.

BLESSINGS!
