Morning Moments

From an obscure village named Tishbe in Gilead arose a simple man with a staggering power from God. It should not surprise us that God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things. I think of some of the amazing acts God accomplished through people whose names are never revealed. But this man whose name means, “Jehovah is my God” steps on the scene, sickened by the Baal worship and bad leadership of Ahab and his wicked wife, Jezebel.

Elijah, a man of like passions as ours, prayed and when he prayed the land dried up –

1 Kings 17:1 Now Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.”

This might have been the first anyone knew of him, but it was certainly not the first time he had been with God. No man preaches better than he prays, and this man prayed earnestly. Notice what this verse tells us –

1. We can speak for God only after we have spoken with God and clearly received His Word.

2. Our prayers to God only find purpose as we partner with God to see Him glorified.

3. The power of God is given only to those whose purpose is to accomplish His will.

We do not stand in awe of this man, great as he is, but we stand in awe of his God, the creator and sustainer of all things. BUT we had better learn to listen to what the man of God says by the authority of the God (Jehovah), who sent him. God said “if any speak not ACCORDING to MY WORD, he is a false prophet.

The Pressing Problem was that it was to be the rainy season and this prophet from out of nowhere steps on the scene and says, “Hold up cool breeze” to Ahab, so the clouds fled away, the sun brightly shone and the earth would produce less and less in defiance of this false god they believed in.

FOR TODAY, we simply see this man of Jehovah challenging the god of these people. You and I who are spokesmen for God better not preach nor prophecy without being SENT by Jehovah, with a WORD from Jehovah, in defiance of the false god a the people, WITH the Word of God as our authority, and the love, light, and life of Jehovah as our evidence.

GET with God, GROW in God, SHINE for God, and TRUST God to give you the tenacity to stand and speak as did Elijah…A Man Just Like Us!

BLESSINGS!
