[Jas 5:17] Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. [18] And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
[1Ki 17:1] And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
Elijah: A Man Just Like Us.
I have always loved the title of Harold Fife’s book. It places our text in proper perspective and helps soothe those of us who serve. It has been said that the key to the Christian life is “Pray and Obey”. I would suggest that simple observation most difficult for most, yet it is so true.
Society has mastered the art of making things that were meant to be simple very complicated and difficult. We have become so skilled at making God’s will so hard that few even know what it is. How many of us simply act on what God has said in His Word? “Well, it is not that simple,” we say. It was for the prophet of God, Elijah, and I believe it should be for us as well.
When God opens a door, we do not have to check out the construction of the door, we simply walk through it. He opens doors no man can close and closes doors no man can open. So, we pray earnestly, God speaks spiritually, we trust completely, and obey implicitly (unaffected by any doubt or uncertainty). That is what Elijah did! God always speaks according to His Word and NEVER contrary to it. It is His Word that shall not return unto Him void, not our opinions, interpretations, or abilities. As we obey His Word, we DO His will.
We shall consider more about Elijah tomorrow, God willing.
BLESSINGS!
