Col. 1:8-12
Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit. [9] For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; [10] That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; [11] Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; [12] Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
The Colossians to whom Paul wrote were saved, yet his fervent prayer for them was that they might know the companionship of the One who saved them. That should certainly be our prayer for one another. Paul's 218 word sentence is a powerful prayer for Christian maturity.
I see this as the erection of a magnificent edifice:
THE FOOTING - In the erection of a building, work is begun by digging what is called the footing. Let me suggest that the footing of Christian maturity is love as seen in verse eight - "your love in the Spirit". Without love we are merely noise makers. We are as children with hammers, beating and clanging accomplishing nothing. We love Him because He first loved us and GAVE HIMSELF...which is what love does. When Christ comes into our lives, the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. It is God's love in us that enables us to love Him, ourselves properly, and our neighbor.
Love, His love in us is patient and kind and never fails. THAT is where this amazing and magnificent edifice begins. "By this shall ALL men know that you are my disciples if you love one another.
BLESSINGS!
