Morning Moments

THE FOUNDATION
Jude !:20 But you, dear friends, as you build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit,
21 keep yourselves in the love of God, expecting the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ for eternal life.

Col. 1:8-12
Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit. 9For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; 12Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

We discover that the Christian life is as a magnificent structure that requires us to build as the Holy Spirit leads, guides, and directs us into Christian Maturity. As we have seen, the FOOTING is “love in the Spirit”. A proper footing is essential for building.

Once the footing is poured, the FOUNDATION must be laid. Paul goes on to speak of “full knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding”. The word “full” is complete and the word knowledge is an ever increasing process. We are to grow in “grace and the wisdom and knowledge of Jesus Christ”. So, the knowledge of His will, accompanied by focused mind and discriminating insight is foundational to growth and maturity in Christ. But what is His will?

That is a subject that has confused more Christians than perhaps any other. We speak of God’s perfect will and His permissive will. We are believers if they are in the perfect will of God, and they often do not have a clue what that is. Churches today, seeking for a pastor follow the same process of the world of business. Pastor’s say they want the perfect will of God for a church, but if it doesn’t pay enough; if the package is not attractive enough, then it must not be the perfect will of God. How pathetic!

A man said to me that God was leading him to buy a new truck and it was going to be red and loaded. I told him that God doesn’t give a rip what color truck he bought, and if he was going in debt for it, God was concerned about that. How silly and confusing we are about the “perfect” will of God. GOD’S WILL IS REVEALED IN HIS WORD.

It is the WORD of GOD that tells us what His will is and the only one in the Bible that I see concerned with the mode of transportation was Jesus when He was to ride into Jerusalem on what we call the “Triumphal Entry”. So, if we are to understand what God’s will really is, we must be “filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding”.

We will pursue this further.

BLESSINGS!
