Morning Moments

Continuing our consideration of the BACKGROUND for the Incarnation, we see that this man of God Zachariah asked God for –

The Proof “mute”
This same cherub had appeared to Daniel in 8:16 and 9:21

Luke 1:18-23
And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.
And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to show thee these glad tidings.
And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.
And the people waited for Zacharias, and marvelled that he tarried so long in the temple.
And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: for he beckoned unto them, and remained speechless.

So you want a sign? You need some evidence that what God has said will happen WILL happen? Okay, this is how you will know: You will not be able to speak until what I told you comes true.

Even the godliest among us have the tendency to want proof sometimes. It isn’t that we do not believe, but we want to make sure that we are on track with God. He knows that! He understands the struggle we have sometimes just taking Him at His word. What if we go out on a limb and say “God is leading” and the limb is cut off? AND IT MAY GET CUT OFF – as in the loss of Zachariah’s speech. But it is all a part of the plan of God.

God did not bring this upon this man of God as punishment, but as PROOF. Get that! So don’t doubt when God gives you a promise just because you cannot understand how He is going to perform His promise. As Dr. Chou said, “Just pray and believe”.

Faith is the proof! It is the evidence of things NOT seen. It is the confidence that although I do not understand how God will do what He said He will do, I can trust Him to do it, and whether I lose my speech or my life in the process simply does not matter, for I am His and He is mine and that settles it.

“Be not faithless, but believing!”

BLESSINGS!
