Morning Moments

Let's continue our consideration of Luke 2:8-14, and see another aspect of the TRUTH that these Tending, Trembling, Trusting Shepherds experienced.

D. There is the truth about the PROOF - this shall be a sign. God doesn't give signs to sightseers to steady, stable, saints AFTER they TRUST THE TRUTH.

1. The sign - a baby. This baby is not only bringing a family closer to God, but the humble shepherds and the honorable wise men too. This baby is the gift that keeps on giving. Yet He came to us in such humble beginnings for a baby. Look at what hospitals do to bring comfort to a baby at birth, but for THIS ONE there was only a simple stall. No plush pillows and no fluffy blankets, just a bed of hay in an animal trough. Now honestly, I don't know just how much animals understand some things, BUT I can promise you THIS was one time that all God's creation, EXCEPT humans understood. GET IT? Don't argue this - just take it by faith. Sometimes the least intelligent among us understands what the rest of us are too "learned" to understand. That's a God thing and a good thing :)

2. The Sight - Wow! A multitude of heavenly host appearing. It astounds me that humanity waited for the promise of this Son for 4,000 years and SUDDENLY, after not a word from God for 400 years, SUDDENLY heaven came down and glory filled their souls.

3. The Sound - The night that had been so still was suddenly stirred by the appearance of the angel, but after the message was delivered and received there was tumulous praise. I like how the NIV translates verse 14: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests. Now that is what blessing is all about: God's favor resting on man.

PRAYER: Father help us to see the whole Christmas scene in a little different light so that it may never appear mundane, but always miraculous. Thank You.
