As we continue let's think today about Abraham's Calculated Preparation.
Whatever might have gone through his mind on the way up, never deterred him. As was the case with our Lord Jesus, as He set His face as a flint toward Jerusalem, Abraham was resolute in His submission and obedience. I know that this whole event seems implausable, but it was God's ultimate test of obedience for Abraham.
Sometimes we think the test is to hard for us, and it may be. For years I have listened as preachers misapply Paul's words to the Corinthians that "no temptation taken you but such common to man, but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above that you are able....
They say "God won't put more on you than you can bear...". Not True! You may need to be broken. If we don't fall on the stone, the stone will fall on us and crush us to powder.
We, as Abraham MUST face life's test with the same kind of confidence Abraham did and understand that the "calculated preparation" comes no KNOWING that we are sharing in His suffering and the power outflowing from His resurrection. So build your altar and know that the sacrifice means death, BUT also that death means resurrection.
PRAYER: Father, teach me today to live not in the fear of my demise, but in the assurance of our resurrection.
