Yesterday I did the blog in a hurry on an Iphone:) There were a few typos, but it is a foolish man who edits his own work:)
Today let's consider Abraham's Conviction Praised. There are some things that really amaze me about God, one of which is the way He gives detailed accounts of the failures of saints in the Old Testament, but in the New Testament commends them for their faith, without mentioning the failure. Oh I know all the theological answers, but it still amazes me. AND I never want to take it for granted, and you should not either.
Do you realize that if God were still writing the Scriptures (and He is not, so dispel any thought of NEW REVELATION!), He would do the same for you and me? He records their failures to show us there are no "supersaints" with God. He shows us their faith to remind us that it is the same faith we have in Christ. Don't miss the point here. If you are a true believer, you have within you THE FAITH OF THE SON OF GOD WHO LOVES YOU AND GAVE HIMSELF FOR YOU. Don't worship faith, worship GOD! Faith is God's way of us letting HIM be the GOD He is, in us. It is the means, but He is the END.
We tend to deify "faith" and say "Oh I wish I had that kind of faith." YOU DO! The only faith that saves us, is the faith that secures, santicifies, and satisfies us. It is HIS faith in me, received from God as a "gift" by grace alone plus nothing!!!
That is why God commends the faith of those in Hebrews eleven, some of which would apprear to be questionable saints to many of us (ex: Lot and Samson), and some of which were fed to lions, beheaded, wandered in sheepskin and goatskin, destitute, and afflicted. They did not drive Mercedes and have a roll of hundred dollar bills in their pockets. SELAH!
STOP! To belittle your faith is to belittle you God and God's gift of faith to you. How insulting it would be for me to recieve an expensive gift from you and belittle it. Faith is a gift from God. IT IS NOT GOD, but a gift from God, so don't worship your faith, but let your faith move you to worship GOD.
NOW, because Abraham worshiped God and not his faith, he understood that with God all things are possible, even things he had never seen God do. So he offered Isaac, knowing he was the son of promise, believing that God would raise him from the dead.
So don't brag on Abraham's faith, brag on his GOD! Stop beating yourself for your failures and start praising God for your faith. His faith in GOD is what moved God to assure him that the son he offered was the same son God had given. And IF GOD GAVE HIM, GOD COULD RAISE HIM! Glory to God!
PRAYER: Forgive me Father, for ever belittling the gift of faith and insulting you who gave it. Help me to worship you and let faith, which comss from You through Your Word, work and witness through me.
