Pharaoh's Dreams Genesis 41:1-7

[41:1] And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river. [2] And, behold, there came up out of the river seven well favoured kine and fatfleshed; and they fed in a meadow. [3] And, behold, seven other kine came up after them out of the river, ill favoured and leanfleshed; and stood by the other kine upon the brink of the river. [4] And the ill favoured and leanfleshed kine did eat up the seven well favoured and fat kine. So Pharaoh awoke. [5] And he slept and dreamed the second time: and, behold, seven ears of corn came up upon one stalk, rank and good. [6] And, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them. [7] And the seven thin ears devoured the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.

Pharaoh's dreams may seem pretty simple to us but they were very complicated and puzzling to him. We have the advantage of the whole record. How could it be that skinny cattle could devour heavy cattle? After all, cattle don't eat cattle. And how could it be that thin heads of grain could devour thick heads of grain? Crazy dream huh?

In the first place, it is a natural impossibility. Secondly, it seems such unreasonable and irrational thinking. BUT as the "heavens are above the earth, so are the ways and thoughts of God above ours." Fraud could have learn some things from God if he had sought him. And so could his followers, for the spirit of man is the key to man, not the psyche.

We must learn that human reasoning and heavely reasoning are completely opposite. Human reasoning says a sea won't part fot people to cross over with dry feet. WRONG!
Human reasoning says a burning bush will be consumed and certainly cannot speak. WRONG! Human reasoning says a man can't live three days and three nights in the belly of a big fish. WRONG! Human reasoning says a donkey can't speak. WRONG! Human reasoning says a man with leprosy cannot dip himself seven times is a muddy Jordan river and come up clearn. WRONG again! Human reasonsing says a woman who has never had sex with a man or who has never been lab implanted with a man's sperm can become pregnant and have a sinless son. WRONG! Need more? What does your human reasoning tell you God can't do that He has shown us He can?

There are some things that God cannot do though - He cannot lie! He cannot deny Himself! He cannot remember our sins that have been confessed and forgiven - NEVER!

In our text we have Him intervening in the life of a pagan monarch for the specific purpose of providentially preparing for the future safety of His people of promise. Did they deserve it? Absolutely not! Do we deserve what He has done and is doing and will do for us? Of course not! But He loves us and wants the best for us as He did for His people then.

When we get in a tight or face with a dilemma, our tendency is to try to figure things out and then ask God to bless our figuring. Time and time again we are reminded that He sees where we do not see and He knows what we do not know, and He provides in ways that we cannot. They are hard lessons to learn sometimes.

Here is a Jew offering leadership enlightenment to a Gentile. Here is a Gentile being used of God to protect the Jews. And the Lord works the same way in the lives of saints today. What is it that stays God's hand of judgment on this nation? It is only the faithful prayers of the saints of God. Why do you think God has not wiped out that bunch of heathens in the Middle East? It is because He is not through with His chosen people Israel and the unconditional promise He made to Abraham. God often uses pagan politicians to purge and purify his saints. It is often the pagan politicians that are hungry for power and prosperity that God uses to show us the utter folly of the ways of the world. We need to pay attention.

No President, no Congress, and no man can ever be the miracle to save us from the judgment of God to come. No party can do it, no platform can do it, ONLY the Lord Himself can and He will as we humble ourselves before His mighty hand and stop stupidly prided ourselves on our differences as Christians and being uniting our hearts and minds, our spirits and prayers, together in unity of THE FAITH.

Pray that we will learn to live as Joseph and that God would so confound unbelieving politicians of this world and so plague them with "nightmares" as Pharaoh's that they might seek the wisdom of the Godly. We have the answer! THEY DO NOT!
