I heard those words from the mouth of TV preacher Earnest Ansley once. I very rarely watch TV preachers but I did happen to catch his show a couple of times and have never been able to forget that line.
A lady and her daughter were visiting my office one day when I noticed what appeared to be a rash around the mouth of the young girl.
"Have you had that checked?" I asked. "No", the mother replied, "It takes so long to get in to see a Dermatologist." "Well," I said, "just as your doctor may give you spiritual advice, I will give you medical advice: Don't use nail polish for the next two or three weeks and see what happens."
Within a week they were back saying my advice had worked, and how grateful they were. Okay, I confess before you think I have some kind of special gift, I have a cousin who is a Dermatologist and the same thing had happened to my wife and that is what he told her. It was an allergic reaction to the nail polish.
Shucks! I could have not told you and you would have thought I was really smart. It was an educated guess based on past experience and it helped someone. If it had not worked she would have seen the doctor anyway and probably been treated in some way for the problem.
Jeremiah 8:22 asks a simple question, "Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? Why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?"
Medical doctors may PRACTICE and you and I may GUESS or suggest, but the Balm of Gilead, the
LORD JESUS CHRISTis indeed the Great Physician who doesn't do guess work. He is not practicing for He is perfect. He knows how to touch your aching soul and bring wholeness and peace. There is no greater disease than sin and He is the ONLY Healer for it! Why resort to guess work? Why go to quacks - philosophies, trends, traditions when He is the TRUTH about God and man, and the truth about man is that he desperately needs God. Let Him do a great work in you today!
If your dreams have turned to ashes and your castles have all crumbled and your fortune has turned to loss, just wrap it all in the rags of your life and lay it at the cross. He is the Balm that heals and soothes and when THIS Physician attends you, the news will always be good news, not bad.
You will never hear THIS HEALER say, "Sometimes it works and sometimes it don't."
BLESSINGS!
