19:7 The law of the Lord is perfect and preserves one’s life. The rules set down by the Lord are reliable and impart wisdom to the inexperienced. 19:8 The Lord’s precepts are fair and make one joyful. The Lord’s commands are pure and give insight for life. 19:9 The commands to fear the Lord are right and endure forever. The judgments given by the Lord are trustworthy and absolutely just. 19:10 They are of greater value than gold, than even a great amount of pure gold; they bring greater delight than honey, than even the sweetest honey from a honeycomb. 19:11 Yes, your servant finds moral guidance there; those who obey them receive a rich reward.
The rule of law - that is what all civilized human beings are to live by. It is the measuring stick that determines what is right or wrong for any society. It is the very thing that has made this democracy superior to all other democracies because our rule of law has been based for almost 250 years upon the law of God as revealed in the Bible.
Ours was never based merely upon some “sacred” sayings of a single man as is the case with Islam, Buddhism, Confucianism, etc. It has not esteemed the philosophy of man higher than the principles of God. We once believed as a nation that the “law of the Lord” was sufficient enough for our nation and for our churches. Democracy without the Law of the Lord is doomed to failure. Freedom can neither be guaranteed nor governed by any government without God. It is these principles (governing laws) alone that preserve life, impart wisdom, and bring joy to a society because they alone are pure and bring insight to life.
The laws of mere mortals are inconsistent and insufficient. God’s laws are just and respectful and are permanent. They are good for all ages and stages of life for all human beings. They can be trusted to always work for the betterment of humanity. Riches do not bring delight that is sweeter than honey to any people, but God’s laws do. They offer moral guidance that is superior to any human philosophy. It is why Paul wrote, “BEWARE lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit after the tradition of men and rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
Intentions may be good, but if they are not based upon God, they are not good enough. When man leans to his own understanding, he is foolish and fails to produce what he and all others need to offer boundaries and guidelines and restrictions - THE LAW OF THE LORD!
Pray and obey!
BLESSINGS!
