James 4:14 (KJV)
14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
We take so much for granted. We assume that we will see another day or hear another sound or have another heartbeat. There is ALWAYS a condition which is, GOD WILLING. If we thought in terms of the brevity of life, for David said, "There is but a step between me and death", we would not leave conflicts unresolved, relationships broken, nor face a day without reminding those dear to us that we love them.
When I was young and filled with zeal (sometimes not according to knowledge), my wife would say, "You give yourself to everybody but me." I didn't understand that at the time but I think I finally caught on. Sixty hour work weeks (workaholic) were nothing. Calls in the night, canceling trips with family because someone was ill or dying, and a thousand other things kept me running to homes, hospitals, wrecks, suicides, murders, and every need imaginable, were certainly common for us. I once said, "If my house was burning down and someone needed me more I would be there and not at the fire".
But there is a balance. I'm not quite sure I have found it completely, but I am learning fast. I love people - saved, lost, young, old, rich, poor, educated, uneducated, I love people and always have. God put that in my heart, but I nor you can assume we have another breath, so NOW is the time to make wrongs right, settled accounts, and to allow the God we worship to be the God He is - in and through us.
If we live we are the Lord's, and if we die we are the Lord's, so let's live as the Lord's until we die as believers and are taken to our Home in Heaven with Him.
Blessings!
