Morning Moments

Ecclesiastes 7:1

"It is better thave have respect that good perfume".

I know of little more rewarding that having those with whom you live. It is humbling to be honored by one's spouse and children. It is for sure that one may not always deserve it, but if it is done as an act of obedience to God, it really puts one being honored on the spot to live up to that respect.

The elderly, the employer, the employee, the law enforcement officer, etc. should all be shown respect. It is so disgusting to me to hear a child call a parent or any other adult for that matter by their first name. It shows a lack of respect. IT IS NOT CUTE! I know it is a cultural thing but it is so refreshing to hear a child or even an adult speak to an elder with "sir" or "m'am". Alas, those days may be gone forever.

We should also show respect for the property of others also. I am amazed at how much of my personal property has been stolen from my bags at airports. I am also amazed to find church pews with chewing gum stuck to the bottom of them. Then there are the public places where the mentally challenged must carve, paint, or whatever their names. My mom use to say "Fools names and fools faces are often seen in public places."

Imagine how much cleaner our highways would be; how much purer our rivers and streams would be; how much safer our homes would be - all because we know and show respect.

Respect should not be merely a cultural thing but a spiritual thing. Life is not a matter of where you are from, your culture or custom, but it is about convictions and commitment. Start today by making respect, even for those with whom you disagree, something to live by and die for and it will make all the difference in all your relationships. It is simply a matter of doing unto others that which you would have others do unto you. Besides, it leaves a sweet scent in the hearts of others.

BLESSINGS!
