Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery
Exodus 20:14
The Punishment - "death" Lev 18, 20; Jn 8:1+
Justice - The law of righteousness demenads punishment. God is Holy and holiness cannot allow that which is defiled to enter its presence. God's law said, "You sin, you die." That's justice. That's holiness. That's righteousness.
Mercy - God also says, "I love you. I have grace. I will forgive." But if God shows us mercy, then He contradicts and destroys the law, and if He upholds the law, He contradicts and destroys His love, which is inconsistent with His nature. He is a loving God, wo human wisdom has no answer, but divine wisdom does: Jesus Christ and the Crosss!
Christ fulfilled the Law: Jesus died on the Cross bearing all punishment for our sins. It was a substitution. He took our place.
Christ fulled God's mercy: The sacrificial shed blood of Christ gathered up the sins of all men and bore it, so God was free to give us His mercy. Christ took the punishment, we take the mercy.
The Pardon "a new heart"
God's Timing Is Great Jn 8:6
Jesus gets pushed into no corners. He takes His time. He makes them wait, as He calmly runs His finger through the dirt, unto the focus has left the scribes and Pharisees and moved to Him.
"So when they continued asking Him" - Christ knew that the continued pleading of the scribes and Pharisees would reveal to some of the people the true character of their hearts.
God's Answer Is Grace Jn 8:7
He din't minisize her sin; He didn't get into a debate about Mosaic law; He didn't set aside Roman law
He devastingly showed them that hey were unfit to be her judges and executioners: "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her."
They were accusing her of adultery, while they were plotting to murder Jesus.
He left a gap of silence which allowed them to muse over what had happened.
We must never minimize or excuse sin of any kind, but this one has strong warning in the Bible. In a world saturated with lust and passion, we must learn to love with purity.
BLESSINGS!
