"THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTERY"
Exodus 20:14

Adultery has been termed "a paradise that becomes a prison." It first and foremost violate the righteous and holy standard of God, and secondly it consequences are absolutely devasting. I have a young friend who says that the grasss on the other side of the fence may somoetimes seem greener, but it is tougher and thicker. That is an appropriate description of the sin of adultery. It only wrecks and ruins lives. It nevers helps -it always hurts!

Probably no story better illustrates how the sweet, stolen water of adultery turns invariably sour than the story of Camelot. In this epic tale, the relationship of King Arthur and Queen Guenevere is trespassed upon when Arthur's most renowned and trusted knight Lancelot gingerly slips his toe across the marital boundary. It started with a look -- an innocent look, without premeditation or evil intent. But it was a short, slippery step from a look to lust, from infatuation to infidelity. The look eventually led to a touch. The touch sometime later led to a kiss. The kiss, to adultery. And adultery, to tragedy.

This three part message is for the purpose of understanding what the Scripture says about the subject of adultery and why God says what He says about it. I am not primarily concerned with what society accepts not what the church itself accepts.

The Primary Meaning -

ADULTERY is the act of unfaithfulness in marriage that occurs when one of the marriage partners voluntarily engages in sexual intercourse with a person of the opposite sex other than the marriage partner.
The General Meaning -

ADULTERY can also refer to illicit sexual relations between any consenting man and woman (married or unmarried), as in Jesus' use of the word in Matt 5:27

A man wrote to Dear Abby recently. He said, "Dear Abby: I am in love and I am having an affair with two different women. I can't marry them both. Please tell me what to do, but don't give me any of that morality stuff. Abby's answer is classic. "Dear Sir: The only difference between humans and animals is morality. Please write to a veterinarian."

It is not an affair! It is not a thing! IT IS ADULTERY! And God forbids it...period!
