Morning Moments

THE RESULTS

Matt 9:30-31
30 And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it. 31 But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country.

Isn’t it strange that Jesus would have them say nothing about what had happened? They were blind and now they see and Jesus tells them to say nothing about it. It is really another glimpse into His deity. His popularity with the people was increasing; the opposition by the religious leaders was increasing also. Jesus would be revealed in His time, not theirs. Even today there are things God’s Spirit teaches us about which He would have us say nothing until the proper time. He made of Himself no reputation.

Why would the two men do just the opposite of what they were told? Look what Jesus had done for them, and they could not obey. How could they? How can we? If we remain silent the rocks will cry out.

Remember what Jesus told John’s disciples when they came with a message from John the Baptist? “Go tell John what you what you have seen, the blind receive their sight…” Jesus said. Even the disciples did not properly understand His messiah-ship at that point. He was training them for the time to come.

The cure of the woman with the issue of blood, immediately followed by the resurrection of the ruler's daughter, and this by the cure of the blind men, had probably thrown the people into an ecstasy which once more required repression by the injunction of silence. (Comp. 8:4.) Mark tells us that Jesus gave the same injunction to the parents of the girl just mentioned. The two blind men, however, were too much exhilarated by the recovery of their eyesight, to heed the command of Jesus, or, perhaps, to believe that he meant what he said. They were too full to hold in; so "they spread abroad his fame throughout all that country."—Commentary on Matthew and Mark (McGarvey).

How can we not tell the glorious things God has done for us? Go and tell!

BLESSINGS!
