Morning Moments

HOW and WHY we do what we do.

Colossians 3:
23 Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men,
24 knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord. You serve the Lord Christ.

I find these verses to be very interesting. In the first place, remember what we covered last week about the “will of God”? The will of God is not merely what you do but how you do it, and why you do it.

We all have menial tasks, daily chores, everyday life that requires us to do things we like and things we don’t like. You may not like washing dishes, making beds, mopping floors, but these things have to be done. So, are we to say that we are doing God’s will by doing these things? That depends on how you do them and why you do them. If I learn to be thankful in doing them and do the best I can in doing them because I am not doing them for me, my family, my friends, my employer, etc., but I am doing them for the LORD, THEN doing them is the will of God for me. AND, I will receive eternal reward for doing them.

Satan wants to make duty distasteful and disgusting sometimes, but he is an extremist anyway. He also wants to make us think that only those engaged in “ministry” are doing the will of God, but that is NOT TRUE. Do you think that Paul was out of the will of God making tents? Of course not! But he would have been out of the will of God by not giving thanks for doing it, for not doing it “enthusiastically”, and by not realizing that his reward for doing that with the right attitude and the right motive.

As we go about our daily tasks, whether pleasant or unpleasant, preferred or un-preferred, may we understand that it is not what we do but how we do it and for whom we do it that will bring reward of loss of reward at the judgment seat of Jesus Christ.

Have a great day!

BLESSINGS!
