Morning Moments

Luke 1:34-35 (KJV)
34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

The Miracle “How…Holy Spirit”
Mary obviously did not understand just how all this would come to pass (nothing like this was ever heard of before), but she was not nearly as concerned with the “how” as she was with the “Who.” If He is in control…it doesn’t matter how.
We are far too casual with the word miracle. A miracle involves Divine intervention. When God either transcends the laws of nature, which He has established, or when He intervenes to start or stop something that has been established as His laws, that is a miracle. It is an act of God, Himself, although He may or may not use a human instrument.

This is why I say of healing that God can do it medically, medicinally, or miraculously. He may use medication. He may use the hands of a surgeon, or He may choose to bypass both and divinely intervene to heal.

In this whole account of the preparation of the Incarnation, we see God directly intervene in the cases of both Elisabeth - 1:7 And they had no child, because that was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years, and with Mary – 1:27 To a virgin…and the virgin's name was Mary.

In the first case, God opened the womb that had been closed and in the other God place in a womb seed that came directly from Him and not a man.

Besides miracles, there are signs and wonders. Each of these acts would seem a miracle to us, but God does make shades of distinction.

Later we shall consider Joseph’s part in the matter, but now we are only concerned with the Miracle in Mary.

How can people be so stupid as to believe an embryo is not a human being with life?

Well, it is because their belief comes from a heart of unbelief. It is just that simple! They do not understand the ways and wonders of God and can only see things from a limited world view. It is not a choice based upon revelation, but a choice based upon preference.

I am typing on a computer. It was invented by man, assembled by man, based upon the knowledge of man. No debate about that. Even atheists and agnostics conceived of and built computers. But if out of nowhere this thing just “came together”, that would be a miracle. It is not a miracle that someone had the thought, although God does gives us the ability to think, but that is simply a part of natural and normal life.

At times God does something NO human being could do by design, surgery, law or otherwise. That is a miracle, and that is what makes the entire account of the Incarnation absolutely amazing, even to the skeptic who tends to think that if it can’t be explained it cannot happen.

Every American will face the human effects of Christmas whether or not they will face the Divine effects of the Incarnation. But here is the important part – Christians do not worship the day or even the event – we worship the God who did all this just because He loves us. He suspended the laws of nature to impose supernatural acts that would lead to our salvation, and to the Good News for the whole world. Think about it!

BLESSINGS!
