1 Cor. 13:13
And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
If one can only be saved by faith and God wants all to be saved, wouldn't you think that faith would be the chiefest or greatest of the three?
On the other hand, if hope is the earnest confidence and expectation that what God has promised us regarding Christ and His return for the Church, hope would be the chiefest or greatest?
Why would God tell us that love is superior to all? Because GOD IS LOVE! He gives faith and encourages hope, but HE IS LOVE. That seems to be what today's Church has missed. Our emphasis seems to be upon "fellowships" as in feasting and playing together, rather than faith. Maybe we could suggest that we prefer to "hollers" in recreation than to hope in His return.
But NONE of the gifts of God we enjoy would be possible without His LOVE for us. By the way, when the early Church prayed, they did not pray to be filled with the Spirit. They prayer for boldness to speak His Word and were filled with the Spirit to do it. Remember, Jesus said, "You SHALL be my witness AFTER the Holy Spirit has come upon you.
Conclusion: No bold witness, no Holy Spirit present. You can talk in your tongues, preach till you are blue in the face, give all you have BUT without the LOVE of God, He is not present, for His is love.
Far too many of us would rather argue theology than LIVE what we know about Him because of His Word and His presence in us. The longer I live the more I see that we have been loud about our opinions of faith and hope, but low key about our love for Him and one another.
John said, "My little children, I have no greater pleasure than to hear you walk in truth. BECAUSE the TRUTH is - GOD IS LOVE and they who do not love with God's kind of love -
4 Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, is not boastful, is not conceited,
5 does not act improperly, is not selfish, is not provoked, and does not keep a record of wrongs.
6 ⌊Love⌋ finds no joy in unrighteousness but rejoices in the truth.
7 ⌊It⌋ bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for languages, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end.
- do not know God. Amen!
BLESSINGS!
