16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.
We, who profess our faith in Jesus Christ HAVE eternal life, which as I have stated before, is “quality life” (abundant, purposeful, meaningful), but we also have “everlasting” life, which is quantitative. We are mortal, which means our lives cannot be “from everlasting to everlasting” because we had a beginning – GOD DID NOT! It is why are bodies are not yet redeemed "for the whole earth waits for the redemption of our bodies…when these vile bodies shall be fashioned like His glorious body. We now have the “earnest” the retainer, the down payment of that promise by being sealed with the Holy Spirit."
The point is that we DO possess eternal life (the life of God IN us) presently, even though we are presently mortal. GOD, however is not mortal, hence, He ONLY hath immortality, which we are promised, but do not yet possess. It is ours by virtue of the fact that we presently have eternal life as the assurance of everlasting life that comes with the relationship.
He dwells in light unapproachable. In other words, when God appeared to man, whether in the burning bush, material form, or angelic form, He MUST shroud Himself, else man would be consumed by His presence, for “our God is a consuming fire”. Man, who is presently mortal could not possibility look upon God who is immortal, because God who is immortal dwells in light that mortals cannot approach YET. But we know this, “…we shall see Him face to face”.
The phrase “nor can see” makes it perfectly clear that anyone claiming he/she has “seen” God, is either imagining or lying and is not to be believed. The Scripture says about Christ “whom having not seen, you love…” Jesus said, “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father”, but you and I have not seen Him. Those early believers “saw” Him, but we have NOT seen Him, but we love Him, so anyone claiming to have “seen Jesus” is either imagining or lying.
Why can’t we believe the Scripture about these things instead of some “subjective” experience. The TRUTH is the TRUTH (Objective), whether or not I believe it or feel it (Subjective).
The text goes on to say, to HIM be “…honour and power everlasting. Amen”, which is to say that He who is immortal and unapproachable and invisible (to us who are in mortal bodies), is to be recognized for WHO He is and be given what He deserves, “honor” as well as recognized for what He has, “power”, because very soon we who are mortal, approachable, visible, honorless, and powerless, shall in that new immortal body see Him as He is…GLORY!
THINK OF THIS FOR AWHILE!
BLESSINGS!
