We know the source of fear, but what of the solution? Consider:
2 Tim 1:7 - "For God hath not give us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
The word for "fear" in this verse mean cowardice, so God has not made us cowards, but courageous soldiers with power, love, and a disciplined mind.
1 John 4:18 - There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth our fear: because fear hath no torment. He that feareth is no made perfect in love."
The word used here is the word
Rev 21:8 - "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murders, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liar, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and bimstone: which is the second death."
Hebrews 10:31 - It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
From these and other verses we discover that there are basically four shades of fear:
1 Holy Fear - denoting reverence for God's authority.
2 Slavish Fear - denoting dread indicating a natural consequence of sin as punishment.
3 Fear of Men - denoting terror - The awe and regard of men in authrority and what they can do.
4 Fear of fear - conveying the idea of fear of the thing or person that that terrorizes one.
From these verses and consideration of the word "fear" we can see how limited the English language is and how little understanding there is concerning these words.
So here is the bottom line in our consideration of fear.
1 Don't fear man or it will cause you to stumble.
2 Don't fear fear for it is a natural emotion that is brought into subject to a disciplined mind.
3 Don't be a slave to your fear or it will negate your faith and paralyze you.
4 FEAR God with a reverence for HIS authority and HIS power to exercise it over evil doers and the protection of His saints.
PRAYER: Thank you Father that the supernatural is just that: power over the natural. Teach us to "fear" you and not men, nor fear, nor our own feelings.
