Rom 8:22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. 23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. 26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
There are two very important words in the text I wish to look at today:
1. Groanings - A groaning, sighing, as of the oppressed
2. Uttered - to speak, utter, make noise. Unutterable, not to be expressed in words. In Rom_8:26, describing groanings which are not capable being adequately expressed in words.
Could this be the bottom line cause for tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanoes, etc.?
I'm just a preacher, not a scientist, but I do wonder about these things. Maybe someone can enlighten me.
We are told that everything moves or vibrates to produce sound and that if our ears could hear the pitch we could hear all of creation, in unison, groaning. Now that is pretty amazing to me. Remember Jesus saying that even the rocks would cry out? All creation is waiting in labor for the regeneration of the earth and the redemption of our bodies. Waiting for the moment that death shall be swallowed up in victory and that there will be no more sickness, sadness, sorrow, or suffering.
Those of us who have attended someone in labor have heard the groanings that are UNutterable. BUT there is another groaning too. It is the groaning of intense prayer, when we do not have the words to express our heart. This is DEFINITELY not tongues, for tongues (dialects, languages) would be utterable.
I think about my dogs whose hearing is far more sensitive than mind. They can hear the distinct vibration of my wife's automobile so that they know when she is about to arrive. There is obviously something unique about the vibration, because they may bark at another vehicle, but when it is hers they hear, they run to the garage door to await her entrance.
The point is that all of creation senses the need for things to be as they ought; as God intended them to be; as God will make them become. So be encouraged that whether we hear it or not all creation is longing for The God of all creation to do precisely what He has promised to do..."make all things new."
