Morning Moments

Women are often far more perceptive than men. Let's look at one today whose name is unknown but whose action is reknown.

"And she said unto her husband, 'Behold now, I perceive that his is an holy man of God which passeth by us continually..."

There are so many wonderful lessons found in 2 Kings 4. But I want to focus upon verses 9-10.

In the first place, we discover a woman who shares a oneness with her husband. Notice the first thing she did was to let him know what she sensed God was doing IN HER HEART.

Even if he obeyed not the Word, as Peter wrote, he could "without a word" be won by his wife's behavior. Notice she said, "I perceive." She is giving God the opportunity to work in her husband's heart, just as he worked in hers. She wins his affection to get his attention. Hmm. If a woman wants her husbands ear, she must first get his heart. That does not happen by preaching to him, but by praying for him and getting his thoughts of her "perception."

We waste so much of lifes precious time going head to head, when the real issue is the heart. It is one opinion against another, one expectation against another. Do you actually think that opinion will really matter in 10 years or in eternity? Who of us thinks that God will reward us for our "opinions?" It is OBEDIENCE that brings His reward. Which is more important our "rights" or our "repentance?"

Now look at the next part of the text: "Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall: and let us set for him there a bed and a table and a stool, and a candlestick; and it shall be when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither."

I call this "the prophet's chamber." What a significant lesson to learn from a seemingly insignificant woman. But that, my friend, is how it works. The Scripture has a way of telling us things without really telling us things. Maybe He is suggesting to some dear one today the need to use your spirit instead of your speach or strength. This woman used her heart, not her head. May God give us more of these.

PRAYER: Thank you so much Lord, for the record of humility that leads to honor. Help us all today to "do it your way," and stop bickering about opinions and rights. Teach us your ways. Teach us that to gain we must lose and to receive honor, we must be humble.
