Today, I want to take a look at the "higher law" I spoke of before. Remember there are two dominating laws regarding our lives. There is the law of sin (indepencence) and death (separation), and there is the law of "the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus, which sets us free from the law of sin and death." Your life and mine are governed by one of these laws. If by the former, it is absolutely impossible to please God because it is a "flesh" life. The only life that pleases Him is the "faith live". It is what Paul means when he writes, "they that are in the flesh cannot please God" and again, "Walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the cravings of the flesh."
There are two basic actions to the faith live or being filled with the Spirit, and walking in the Spirit. Everything else is subject to these two actions:
1) Submission to and confession of the Lordship of Jesus Christ. This is abiding in Christ. It is the life of absolute surrender as refered to by Andrew Murray in his book by the same title (a MUST for every believer). Simply put, this is the abundant life Jesus promised. It is the "not I, but Chirst" life Paul wrote about in Romans 6.
2) Letting the "Word of Christ dwell in you richly", which is letting "my words abide in you" of John 15. This is what David meant when he said, "In HIS law do I meditate day and night".
So remember, "be ye being filled with the Spirit" (continuous action verb), is THE WILL OF GOD FOR EVERYONE OF US. No exception! It does not mean you jump pews, speak in tongues, or any such things. It is a simple, continual surrender to the LORDSHIP of Jesus and meditation on the Word of God. That's IT! Nothing more, and nothing less. It is what Paul means when he writes to the Colosians: "As you have RECEIVED Christ Jesus the Lord" (and how did you receive Him? - BY FAITH); "so WALK ye in Him" (BY FAITH). Do you have to THINK about living? NO, you are lving unless you are dead. As a Christian being filled with the Spirit of God, I am living BECAUSE I am dead. Now that's the TRUTH about pleasing God and lving for Him, so don't you let anyone confuse you. END OF STORY!
Tomorrow, God willing, we will see the results of the "life more abundantly." Call it what you will, but it is CHRIST, ALIVE and LIVING IN ME! Glory to God. Now find yourself a spot and have a running fit about it:) Blessings!
PRAYER: Blessed God, help us to understand that you did not enter our lives to complicate them but to simplify them. We tangeled the web and you have come to untangle it. You said, "whom the Son shall set free, he shall be free indeed." In the words of the late Martin Luther King, "Free at last! Free at Last! Thank GOD ALMIGHTY we are free at last.
