In the fifth chapter of Paul's letter to the Romans, he uses two words that are a nightmare for many believers. The two words are "tribulation" and "patience".
Let me illustrate them by two laws: the law of aerodynamics and the law of gravity. In order for something to be considered a law, it must consistently occur. So the law of gravity pulls one down, while the law of aerodynamics lifts one up. Both are exerting pressure but in the case of flying, the law of aerodynamics is a "higher" law. In other words it enables us of overcome the law of gravity. It does not do away with it, but enables us to "defy" it so to speak.
With that in mind, consider two other laws: the law of sin and death and the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus. The first is a governing principle (law) demanding that independence and separation control our lives. IT IS A LAW! It happens consistently.
However, there is a higher law; the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus that FREES us from the law of independence (sin) and death (separation). So our "tribulations", the pressures pushing against us, represented in my illustration by the law of gravity (tribulations) demands a higher law, the Law of aerodynamics (the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus (patience) to "disengage, put our of gear, overcome" the lower law (tribulations).
So, God is glorified when we walk in the Spirit, patiently enduring life's tribulations in the hope of glorifying God.
PRAYER: Father, we realize that pressures are a part of life that we can fight against in our own strength or realize that they are opportunities for the Spirit of God in us to glorify You with us. Our prayer is that today we will glorify You.
