"Be sure your sins will find you out."
"Some men's sins go before them and other men's sin follow after them."
The irony of it all is absolutely amazing! Thirteen years TO THE DAY, after O J Simpson was acquitted of killing his wife and Ron Goldman, he is found guilty of robbery and kidnapping.
When I was a young boy (maybe 5 or 6), I went with my mom to the corner store with my mom. A family friend owned the store who was also a policeman. Well, guess who stole a bar of candy? I asked mom if I could wait in the car. So I got in the floor of the backseat, opened my candy and was enjoying myself. I shall never forget the moment! My mom opened the door and asked where I got that candy. In a moment, my delight became great distress. Can you imagine what she did? She made me got back into the store and tell the owner what I had done. How absolutely humiliating but it was the best way to learn my lesson.
I have been learning lessons for a long time now, but one of the best is that sin is like a hound that will always track us down. It is not worth running from it. The longer the delay, the greater the dread until one day it must be faced. Many of us think we can get away with it, but there is not a chance. Sooner or later it will catch up to us, and expose us for what we are.
You may not have ever stolen a candy bar, but maybe you stole someone's affections that did not belong to you. Maybe you never pulled an O J deal, but you murdered someone with words or hatred in your heart. Sometimes we really think we have gotten away with something, but WE ARE WRONG!
God's desire is that we come clean! He knows what we hide in our hearts and He wants us to come clean about it. He is calling us to honesty and integrity, purity and humility, righteousness and peace. To paraphrase 1 John 1:9: If we say confess (say the same thing; agree with) God about our sins (missed targets, resistance, rebellion, selfishness, lack of love, lust, whatever is UNrighteous), He is faithful and just to FORGIVE our sins and to keep on cleansing us from all unrighteousness.
PRAYER: Father help me to see that my pride is as deadly as my passion. Help me to understand that it is not the size of my sin that crucified Jesus, but the FACT of it. I really want to love you most and put you first in my life. Keep me close, and keep me clean before you.
