Morning Moments

A friend of mine had his bass boat on the trailer in his drive way.  He was inside the boat doing some repairs and clean up.  Earlier he had used a drill and had left the drill on the ground beside the boat.

While he was concentrating on what he was doing inside the boat, his young child had come out to play and saw that amazing piece of equipment laying on the ground beside the boat.  The child asked, "Daddy can I play with this?"  In an effort not to ignore the child, but remain focused on what he was doing, the dad simply replied, "Sure, son."  He had forgotten the earlier use of the drill and his negligence in leaving on the ground.

In what seemed a flash, my friend heard the sound of a drill, suddenly remembered he had left the drill on the ground.  He screamed, "No!"  He jumped out of the boat but IT WAS TOO LATE.  The young child, meaning no harm had drilled a hole in his boat.

Sometimes life is that way.  We can get so concerned about what is before our eyes that we fail to see behind our back.  We become so engrossed in the present project that we fail to see to pending danger.

The twofold purpose of the Church in the world is to reach and teach.  The buildings, the budgets, the programs, etc. can be distractions.  The talent, the tricks, the traditions, and the trends can be distractions.

The purpose of a wife and mother is to be a wife and mother.  The dishes, the dogs, the duties, etc. can be distractions.

The purpose of a husband and dad is to be a husband and dad.  The gold, the golf, the goals, etc can be distractions.

In whatever area of life you are, remember to Do Diligence and Keep Alert to dangers and distractions.

PRAYER:  Father, help us today to see the big picture and to understand that you left us here only for the purpose of reaching and teaching.  It may be in the home, on the job, in the church, but wherever it is, keep us focused and alert.
