1 How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me?2 How long shall I take counsel in my soul,Having sorrow in my heart all the day?How long will my enemy be exalted over me?3 Consider and answer me, O Lord my God;Enlighten my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death,4 And my enemy will say, "I have overcome him,"And my adversaries will rejoice when I am shaken.
Those of us who truly walk with God know the feeling, but we are certainly not the only ones who experience despair. The difference comes in the believer's knowledge and understanding and faith and trust in the ABILITY of GOD to bring us through.
Now read the "Rest of the Story" in verses 5-6:
5 But I have trusted in Your lovingkindness; My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.6 I will sing to the Lord,Because He has dealt bountifully with me.
God is not surprised nor upset with our honesty. In fact, it is what He desires of us. He understands our impatience and allows tribulation in our lives to work "patient endurance". It is part of His plan to mature us and produce the fruit of the Spirit in our lives. It is why and how we can "give thanks always for all things; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."
