WITHOUT EXCUSE!
[Rom 1:20] For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Yesterday a terrorist was found guilty on 1 of 285 charges in an American court. The evidence against him was overwhelming, but a jury found him guilty on only one count. One wonders how so much evidence could possibly be ignored. Maybe there was one bias juror who held out until the others caved in. In any event, regardless of the sentence twelve jurors got it wrong in the face of insurmountable evidence.
That is precisely what our text says about the knowledge of God. The evidence is unquestionable and insurmountable and yet multitudes reject the truth that is clear and obvious. It says that the things that His eternal power and Godhead CAN be clearly seed and understood by creation and anyone who rejects that is without excuse.
Denial of something or someone in no way proves that thing or person does not exist. Denial of God may be based upon fear of being accountable to Him, being considered less “scientific”, less independent, or whatever. But denial of Him really proves an inward dishonesty and rebellion against truth.
Accepting the knowledge of God’s existence doesn’t reconcile one to Him; of course, anymore than acknowledging the existence of a country makes one a citizen of that country, but it is a start. Just as one would be required to take the proper steps of citizenship of a country, one must take the required steps of becoming a citizen of Heaven. I know that is an over simplification but it gives the idea.
If one accepts the truth from his/her heart revealed about God in creation and conscience, He will lead that one to the ultimate truth about the knowledge of His Son, Jesus Christ, who offered Himself as a sacrifice for our sin (independence from and rebellion against God).
If one rejects what is revealed about God through creation and conscience, he/she will ultimately reject the truth revealed about Jesus Christ as the Way to God, the Truth about God, and the Life of God and will remain WITHOUT EXCUSE.
