GOD
[Psa 90:2] Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
All my Christian life I have sought to think beyond the theological to help people see the practical. I use to say my desire was to “scratch where it itches”. Word pictures and illustrations (windows through which truth can be seen) have always been important to me. But all of those things have their limitations. There comes a time and place where one must accept or reject truth whether or not it can be comprehended by the mind. Our text may be one of those for someone reading this devotional.
For the human mind to conceive that there was a time (poor word) when only God existed is really difficult. BUT it is true! We can offer proof theologically and apologetically, but the truth of it all comes down to a willingness to accept the revelation of God of Himself in the Bible. Oh, one doesn’t need the Bible to be monotheistic for there are many who “believe” in God who do not accept the Bible as His revelation. The question is: Is the “God” of the monotheistic religion the God of our text? The answer must be NO for anyone who does not worship HIM in spirit and according to TRUTH, and the truth is that “no man comes to the Father except through Jesus Christ.”
So where then does man without Scripture obtain the concept of the existence of God? Paul tells us it is through creation and conscience. It is “written on the heart of man.” In other words, it is in our DNA. It is GENETIC! To renounce it or denounce it is like denying one’s own identity. It is there! ONLY the awareness of a Supreme Being, not of Jesus Christ, that is why we are commanded to go and tell about Jesus.
Our text says before there was creation, there was the Creator. That may be hard to grasp theologically, but let me give it to you practically: Do we know of anything that someone didn’t make? Think about the computer, the clock, the car, the plane, or whatever, somebody who made it lived before he/she made it. The illustration has its limitations for sure but it illustrates the principle of design. Every design has a designer. But when it comes to the heavens, humans, and hell, we resist what is absolutely normal and natural to the human brain – the principle of design by a Supreme Designer. It is neither normal nor natural, but we do it because we LEARN to do it. We HAVE to learn to deny what is in our DNA about our DESIGNER. Think about it!
BLESSINGS!
