Morning Moments

HOPE

[Rom 5:5] And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

We must never think of the word “hope” in terms of wishful thinking. It is an abiding confidence in the faithfulness of God. Because the Holy Spirit pours out God’s love in the believer’s heart that love trusts and that trusts brings an abiding confidence that God is always faithful, so as the context says our abiding confidence is that God, who works all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose is working through tests, trials, and tribulations to develop patient endurance which never brings shame to us or to God for He is faithful who called us who will do it.

We do not “wish” He would do this, we are “confident” that He will. That is the hope that resides in the believer abiding in Christ. These are not mere words, but promises from our Father in Heaven for all His children. It is faith, the faith of the Son of God in us that generates this abiding confidence.

Imagine two soldiers in a battle against the enemy. There is an IED that must be disengaged. One is to disengage the bomb and the other says, “Don’t worry man, I got your back.” Because of an abiding trust the first soldier can focus on his work without worry of being injured or interfered with. That is an abiding confidence in your fellow soldier.

There is no disappointment with God. He will never let you down. Even when you fail He will use your failure to help you, but you must maintain abiding confidence in Him and not in your own ability. We all make messes. We all fall short. We all fail. But He doesn’t and He knows how to take our worst moments and help us learn from and grow from them.

“HOPE THOU IN GOD!”

BLESSINGS!
