THE LAST ENEMY
1 Cor. 15:26
The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
Most Christians and a few preachers do not think of death in terms of an enemy, but it is. The Scripture says:
Hebrews 2:14
Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
Deut. 30:19
I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
Death came by sin. It was never the will of God for man to die, but because man made the unwise choice to sin, he became responsible for the sin he had chosen, and the wages of sin is death, so death passed upon all because all have sinned.
BUT JESUS took upon Himself the penalty for man's sins, so He died for all of them and was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father to give those of us who believe His very life, which does not and cannot die. He died once for all and was raised once for all. So, all who received Him, receive the whole package of redemption, justification, sanctification, and glorification. Because knowledge precedes action, His our all knowing God acted on behalf of those He knew would receive His Son and the eternal life only He can give. That is why Jesus could say in John 11:24-26 [24]"Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. [25] Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: [26]And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?"
Hence, the question is not did he really do it for me, but will I believe (rely upon, depend upon) the fact that he did it for me. If so, then as I make a commitment of my life to Him and receive the commitment of His life to me, I HAVE eternal life and will not "die" but be changed. THAT is His promise. Man sinned in response to Satan's temptation and death passed upon all by sin, but Christ died and was resurrected to cleanse from sin and to conquer sin's control over us.
Therefore, "He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. [13] These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." 1 John 5:12-13
BLESSINGS!
Do you believe this with all your heart?
