Morning Moments

The Facts "Lord of the Sabbath" Mt 12:8: Mk 2:27-28; Lk 6:5

Matt 12:6 (NASU) "But I say to you that something greater than the temple is here.
7 "But if you had known what this means, `I desire compassion, and not a sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the innocent.
8 "For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."

Tradition is never to supersede Truth! Days were never designed to be substituted for Deity. When Holy Days are highly regarded (Christmas, Easter, etc.), and holiness is renounced (purity, piety, etc.). Work was never to become an object of worship. The fact is that God never made our bodies to work seven days a week. They deserve and demand rest. God didn't rest on the seventh day of creation because He was tired, but because He had completed His work.

"The Sabbath is the seventh day of the week, which divided the Hebrew month into four equal parts." Initially, it was a testimony to the God of creation, but became a sign between God and Israel (Ex 20:8-11). It also linked Israel with the Exodus (Dt 5:15). The day was to be a reminder of the Creator, Covenant Keeping, and Redeeming Lord. So it was important for physically to refresh his body, and it was important for man spiritually to refresh his soul. In Jesus' day it had become sacred and thus had lost its significance. Whenever that which is created takes the place of the One who created it, it fails to serve its purpose and it loses it significance.

BLESSINGS!
