Morning Moments

The Song of Moses

[22] So Moses brought Israel from the Red sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water. [23] And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah. [24] And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink? [25] And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them, [26] And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee. [27] And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water, and threescore and ten palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters.

We have no idea of the melody of this song, nor do we know of any instrumental accompaniment, but that doesn't really matter. In fact, except for some of the present generation the words of a song are more important than the melody.

There are love songs, sad songs, done me wrong songs, happy songs, etc., but this song is one of victory and vision. It is a song of victory over the enemy and vision of the eternal God. It focuses upon the defeat of the enemy and the deliverance of the elect of God.

As is characteristic of life, battles follow blessings and blessings follow battles. Testing follows triumphs and triumphs are supposed to follow testings. They do so long as the testing results in overcoming.

Israel is led into the wilderness for three days without water and when water is found, it is bitter. The only hope for sweet water came from casting a tree into the bitter water. What a lesson of the cross in the midst of crisis we find here!

This experience, as few others, presents a clear picture of the difference the cross makes in everyday life. The Scripture says that man born of woman is but a few days and full of trouble. Those unsurrendered to the Lordship of Jesus Christ do not understand nor appreciate this truth. Most resist and reject any thought of trouble in life. But trouble comes in order for Trust and Truth to Triumph.

Today, as you face life trials, tests, tribulations, and troubles, just remember that despite the bitterness of life, the cross - His demise AND ours brings resurrection life that is sweet. Yesterday's sweetness sours soon, but TODAY - yes today brings new help, new hope, and new holiness without which no man shall see the Lord. JUST SING! DON'T SIGH! And the song of praise shall bring sweet perseverance and patience.

BLESSINGS!
