Weather forecasting today seems more inaccurate than ever to me. Rain is predicted and the sun shines; sun and the rain comes, etc. That doesn't particularly bother me because I know who in charge of the weather and can be thankful for it all.
We are having gorgeous weather in LA (lower Alabama) today, but we have certainly seen some dark cloud days. Some of those days were what I refer to as “Who knew” days. Storm was expected but never showed up. My point is that weather forecasting is sometimes best left to the eye rather than the radar.
Look at the words of Jesus in Luke 12:54-57 -
54 And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is.
55 And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass.
56 Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?
57 Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?
What is sometimes very obvious is overlooked. Now notice the following:
In verses 54-55 we see -
The Obvious -
When the obvious is obvious, prepare for the obvious. If a train is heading for a bridge that is out, it is obvious what will happen. To deny the obvious is foolish. There is always a consequence to sin and an effect to a cause. The reality about life is that we reap what we sow. Whether we sow as an individual or a nation, the principle holds true. God says, “Be sure your sins will find you out”. Now should not that keep us from doubting and denying the obvious?
In verse 56 we see -
The Obstacle -
Americans have always been optimists for the most part. Our politicians have assured us that whatever happens, we will come out on top. “It is the economy, stupid” was the slogan a few years ago, and of course we bought into it. The obstacle to God's opening heaven and pouring out His blessings upon us once again is not the economy, it is the sin and degradation, the moral fiber has eroded and those who lead in business and government have exploited the people. The obstacle for the world today is the lack of integrity and honesty. It seems that few can discern this, or least least few have the courage to try to do something about it.
In verse 57 we see -
The Offense
We have somehow squelched the idea of accountability and developed a lack of judgment about what is right and wrong. When the absolute standard becomes a relative standard, then as in the time of the judges of Israel, “Every man does what is right in his own eyes”. The most obvious today is “freedom of speech” which has become so confused by perverted and subverted lawyers that what is wrong has become right and what is right has become wrong. A student can shout obscenities to a teacher but a teacher cannot tell the child about Jesus and the Bible standard.
It is the offense that shall find us lacking. We have offended the God of the environment, economy, and everything else and He will bring us into account for it. This is no time to sit idly by and say, “Oh well, there is nothing I can do; what will be, will be.”
WE MUST DO WHAT WE CAN WHILE WE CAN!
The weather is changing and we must not ignore the signs!
BLESSINGS!
