Ps 119:68
As we continue our consideration of the section of Psalm 119 sub titled TETH, which is the nineth letter of the Hebrew alphabet, consider the words of Keil and Delitzsch - The eightfold Teth. The good word of the gracious God is the fountain of all good; and it is learned in the way of lowliness. He reviews his life, and sees in everything that has befallen him the good and well-meaning appointment of the God of salvation in accordance with the plan and order of salvation of His word.Keil and Delitzsch Commentary on the Old Testament - Commentary on the Old Testament รข€“ Volume 5: Psalms.
Jehovah is as pure gold, absolute in nature and character, as seen by the word "good". Because He IS good, all that He does is good with pure motive, pure purpose, and pure results. His statutes (enacted laws) are good also. Hence, we are created (new creation - new birth) in Christ Jesus for our "works" our actions to be good.
Ps 119:69
Arrogance is the attitude that one has made oneself something, when in truth, without Christ we are NOTHING. We are zeroes with the rim rubbed out as my friend Brusseau used to say. Because man without Christ is nothing, he can do nothing that pleases God. Jesus said, "Without me, you can do nothing".
Because arrogance compares others to what one thinks of himself and finds them missing the mark, the arrogant become very judgmental and critical. They often see those who follow the LORD as weak and dependent, but see themselves as strong and independent.
What they say about those who love and follow the LORD are lies because they do not possess truth in the inner parts as do those who follow the LORD's instructions.
Ps 119:70
The heart, from which comes the issues of life, of the proud is "fat", which means to be thick or stupid. To be wise and understanding means that one delights in the instructions of God.
Ps 119:71
The idea of being afflicted is that of poor and needy. It may mean physically, financially, or socially, BUT it never means morally. In other words, we who follow the LORD and His Word, may appear to those who think themselves something when they are nothing, and are deceiving themselves, to be "less" or "weaker" than they when in truth we are MORE than CONQUERORS through Christ who strengthens us.
Don't complain when you are "afflicted" or brought low, but understand it is part of the plan of God to protect and perfect you.
BLESSINGS!
