Morning Moments

The prayer that Jesus prayed that has not yet been answered

I love that High Priestly prayer of Jesus in John chapter seventeen. We should hear much more of it from the pulpits and Sunday school classes. In the verses below, Jesus is asking something of the Father that can only become true “practically” as we walk in obedience under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

20 I pray not only for these, but also for those who believe in Me through their message.
21 May they all be one, as You, Father, are in Me and I am in You. May they also be one in Us, so the world may believe You sent Me.

Jesus prays that we (true believers) may be ONE, then He goes on to say that is how the world will know that the Father sent the Son. I am afraid that what God has done with us positionally is not apparent practically with us.

If the love of God is shed abroad in the hearts of true believers, why on earth do we not see more unity and love in the Body of Christ. “Love, God’s love in us, does not insist on its own way; it is not touchy, fretful, or resentful…it believes the best of the other person and endures everything without weakening. Love (God’s love in us) never fails.” (ANT)

The Bible is clear that every member of the CHURCH is a minister of the Church. In other words, we are not saved to sit, but to serve. Today, in many cases, we have to “hire” people to do what they should gladly do for and with Jesus.

It is the “serving” part that gets most of us. We don’t mind being called servants, as long as we are not treated like servants. We must serve recognizing that the Lord has the accurate record, not man, and that when we are not appreciated it does not matter. As servants, we offer our “rights” as an acceptable sacrifice to Jesus, and HE converts those rights to privileges.

It thus becomes a privilege to serve one another because we LOVE one another.

It works! It works in the Church, in the home, in the workplace and because it works, Jesus said, “All shall know that you are my disciples.” This is the key to marriage, ministry, missions, money, and everything else. ANYTHING else is nothing but selfishness. Don’t you think it would be a good thing to start today to demonstrate that we ARE His disciples by denying ourselves, abasing ourselves, and reckoning ourselves dead to sin BUT alive to God?

Blessings!
