1 Tim. 3:1
This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
Here is a man that passionately stetches himself toward shepherding the flock and that is a good work. Paul expresses it this way in 1 Cor 9:16, "Woe unto me if I preach not the gospel," and to use the words of Jeremiah in Jer 20:9, "his word was in my heart as a burning fire shut up...." That my friend is the desire of a God commissioned man. It is not a "want to", it is a "must do."
There is in the soul of every God gifted pastor a burning desire, a churning of soul, a complusion, to do it. If you don't have this, you need to do something else. You may be like the old farm boy that said God called him to preach. Someone ask him how he knew and he said, "I saw the letters GP in the clouds and understood it to mean Go Preach. After hearing him, a bold soul said to him, "Maybe the GP meant go plow.
So there are at least three things I see in our text today:
1. He is Prepared from above as seen in the first word translated desire.
2. He is Passionate from within as seen in the second word translate desires.
3. He is Productive in ministry as seen in the words "Good work".
God does prepare some men without an education as we know it.
God does impassion all that He has gifted to pastor.
God will make the work of every man He commissioned productive.
Remember, It is much fruit by which God is glorified.
BLESSINGS!
