Wayne Dyer, well known author and lecturer has stated: “You could take the ten best worriers in the entire world, put them in the same room for the rest of their lives and allow them to worry and worry only, and you know what would happen? Absolutely nothing!”
Worry produces nothing, but paralyzes everything. If you worry about having an accident when you drive, statistically you are highly likely to cause an accident. Your mind is so preoccupied with the thought that you actually help bring it about.
Worry can be self-fulfilling prophecy. Have you ever worried about something until it happened, then assured yourself that you had reason to worry about it. In truth your worrying may have created the whole situation.
Honestly, what would stop you from worrying, to know that more people like you? Not all will, so you can stop worrying about that. Would it stop you from worrying to know that you would never have another financial problem? It just won’t happen, so get over it. What about knowing that you would never be ill or hurt, would that do it? Not likely. If you are always worrying about losing your job, it will affect your work and you may end up accomplishing your objective.
Out of a billion Roman Catholics, many worried about who would be the next pope, but those who worries had no control over his selection.
God has determined for us to learn some things, so he puts us in pressure point places to teach us.
Think about it. Can you imagine what that piano or harp, or violin would sound like if there were tension on the wires or strings? Those are instruments that produce beautiful music because o tension, and humans are no different.
Worry and anxiety because of tension are like placing your car in neutral and flooring the accelerator – it will get you nowhere and can ultimately ruin your engine, but when you put it in drive and slowly accelerate you make progress.
I would like to suggest seven steps to help worriers win over worry:
1. Praise – He is Lord – speak it, sing it, say it, and see it. Never complain, never murmur, and always extol Him – Read Hebrews 13:15 and memorize it.
2. Pause – STOP! LOOK! LISTEN! – Stop fretting – it is a choice you have to make – Read 1 Thessalonians 4:11 and memorize it.
3. Petition – Talk to the Lord about it. Admit your weakness – acknowledge His strength – Philippians 4:13, and be honest with Him about yourself - Read Philippians 4:6 and memorize it.
4. Peace – seek peace and pursue it – God’s peace can neither be explained nor understood, but it can be experienced. Read and memorize John 14:27.
5. Protection – Our Father protects us. The peace of God will stand sentry around you thoughts and feelings. Trust, don’t try. Trying takes work. Trust leads to worship. Read and memorize Philippians 4:7.
6. Ponder – Think right! Stinking thinking leads to stagnant living. Read and memorize Psalm 1:2.
7. Practice – Do what you see other victorious believers do. Water seeks its own level. Why do you think some of us are able to help people with their problems while others are just folks complaining to us? Read and memorize Philippians 2:13.
The real question isn’t whether or not you can do it, but will you do it? If we will but put into action the principles and promises of these verses, the difference will absolutely amaze us. You can be sure God will do His part, but He will not zap us with the inability to worry if that is what we choose to do. You CAN WIN over worry and you can begin today.
PRAYER: Father, today I pray for the worriers. In the name of Jesus, help them to beging practicing their faith in this area and may they be encouraged to be victorious.
