Morning Moments

“I will tell the saints and angels as I lay my burdens down, ‘Jesus led me all the way.’”

“He leadeth me; He leadeth me; O blessed thought, He leadeth me. His faithful follower I will be for by His hand He leadeth me.”

“Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” “My sheep hear my voice and they follow me.”

In the early spring,
When I knew not anything;
And through the summer too,
When skies were bright and blue;
Then in the early fall,
When I thought I knew it all;
Now finally through winter,
I’m no longer just a sprinter;
But learning now to pace,
Until I see His face;
I long to hear him say,
"I led you all the way."

My friend, Woody, had a heart attack this past week, and died Friday night about 11:00 PM. I was with him at 7:00 PM. He was widowed twice. He had no children but lots of friends. He was a gentle and loving man and the last words I heard him say were, “I love you, Brother Austin.” He did just that.

I would often pick him up to take him to church when he was unable to drive. He had not been well for some time, but he didn’t complain. His love for the Lord was unquestionable. My friend has gone. He has gone to be with Someone who loves him more than we ever could. He has gone to be with Someone who always understood. He has gone to be with Someone who led him by His grace. He’s gone to be with Jesus, to see Him face to face.

I know it is a bit strange and may seem a bit morbid for me to be writing this blog today, but these are the thoughts that fill my mind in these morning moments. Thoughts of his laughter and his stories of the past years of life, and reminders of the little things he said and did to show His love for Christ; thoughts of an old man, little known but much loved. Shhhh! What is that I hear? Someone is saying, “Welcome home, My friend.”

PRAYER: Thank you, Lord, for touching my heart through my friend.
