Morning Moments

2Sa 7:18 Then went king David in, and sat before the LORD, and he said, Who am I, O Lord GOD? and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?

David never got over the fact that Adonai Jehovah would establish such a covenant with him, and guide him, and give him his desire of building an house for the LORD. Honor always walks through the gates of humility. When we lose the “WOW” of an intimate walk with God, we begin to wander. Look with me at the verse and see:

The Move – “then went king David in”
David went into the tabernacle where the ark was. We are told to come boldly before the throne of Grace that we may obtain grace and mercy in time of need. Imagine that! We have direct access all the time to the very God (master) who is the Lord One whose name is too sacred to be uttered). Here is the “king” approaching the “KING”, but consider this – this human approached His Holiness in deep humility and received honor. Our approach is to be bold, not brash; as gentle lambs, not bulls in china shops; as children, not as commandos.

The Majesty – “sat before the LORD”
One doesn’t sit when appearing before a Sovereign, but kneels, stands, bows. How amazing thing is that we can have the kind of relationship with Him as to “sit” with a friend. Just to think that we can sit face to face our Maker, our Majesty, our Master! Be reminded that the position of the body does not necessarily indicate the posture of one’s heart. When we learn to sit with Him, we will learn how to walk and stand.

The Mystery – “Who am I”
An unlikely shepherd body is who David was; one among many brothers, but one who knew tenderness and transparency, truth and trustworthiness. We must never forget who we are and who He is. It is a mystery that He should care for and call such a one as me. David never got over the wonder that God Himself allow him such intimacy. It was not casual, but spiritual. Gil says, “a creature, a sinful creature, a mean and unworthy one, undeserving of a place in the house of God, and of access unto him, and to receive any favour from him, less than the least of all saints, less than the least of all mercies:

The Meekness – “what is my house?”
Again Gil says, “or family of which he was, the family of Jesse; for though it sprung from a prince in Israel, yet was but low and mean, in comparison of some others, and especially unworthy of the regard of the great God:” In other words, God brings ordinary men to extraordinary places. If we will but abase ourselves, He will in due time exalt us, but if we exalt ourselves, he will bring us low.

The Mercy – “thou hast brought me hitherto” We must never fail to be aware of the guidance of our God. He will guide us all the way home. Does He owe me that? NO! Does He offer that? YES! And that is one of the many things that are so amazing about Him. Go sit, serve, speak, search and stand with this in mind.

PRAYER: “Gracious God, Thank you so much for just letting me sit before You and learn from You.
