In keeping with our outline of the events preceeding the incarnation, we shall today focus upon points "C" and "D".
II. Gabriel’s Announcement to Mary Lk 1:26-38
A. The Messenger “Gabriel”
This was a fulfillment of the double reference verses by God to David in 2 Sam 7:12-13.
B. The Messenger “a son”
Again, the fulfillment of Scripture: Isa 9:6 and 7:14
C. The Miracle “How…Holy Spirit”
Mary obviously did not understand just how all this would come to pass (nothing like this was ever heard of before), but she was not nearly as concerned with the “how” as she was with the “Who.” If He is in control…it doesn’t matter how.
What a marvellous lesson for us. Did you ever say things like "How am I going to...", or "How in the world is this...". As we walk by faith, we discover that God can do exceeding abundantly above all that we can think or ask. So the real question is not "how", but "who?" Who is working all things together for His glory and my good? Who is with me ALWAY? Who will never leave me nor forsake me? HE is WHO and that is enough. It was enough for Mary and enough for us.
D. The Meekness “be it done”
Are we that willing for God to do what He wants to do in and with us? We may not understand, but we are nevertheless willing and submissive. We are so afraid somebody else is going to get the best of us, take advantage of us, and we fail to see the hand of God for looking at the face of man. Mary learned an important lesson: If we are to see the face of God; in her case a baby, then we must trust the hand of God; in her case a pregnancy without intercourse.
PRAYER: Oh Dear God, how insane it is for me not to trust You with EVERYTHING. If You could do such an incredible thing with an innocent young girl who was simply willing to offer herself to You, What's my problem? You delight in fulfilling the desire you place in me to please You. Thank YOU!
