Morning Moments

Psa 63:1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;

I am a morning person! The early hours before day are the most important to me. It is a time of quiet and peace with no planes overhead, nor cars on the street, no radio or TV - just an occasional whine from one of the dogs that wants a little attention. But this is my favorite time of the day. I usually get a cup of coffee and after prayer, begin writing. Sometimes I realize I am simply writing bits and pieces that would mean nothing to anyone but me, but it's okay.

My wife and I laugh at my crazy sleep habits, because there have been times that I would sleep in three different beds in a night. Finally, old age has come, so now I have my own room and can work and pray whenever I wish without disturbing anyone:) This is also my favorite stage in life, because all the things that once mattered so much do not matter so much anymore and I can spend as much time in prayer and in God's Word as I wish without interruption.

When I was a young boy I would get so aggravated with my friends who would want to sleep till noon on Saturdays. I could always find things to do:) Later in my life I was a rock and roll drummer and worked in nightclubs. Even with the late hours, I was an early riser, so God was preparing me even then for this precious times alone with Him. I am so grateful to Him for that.

Don't misunderstand me. I know that some of us need more sleep than others but here is my point: When the Psalmist said, "...early will I seek thee," I understand. The psalmist wanted God before breakfast, and he longed for HIM more that food or water. Is it any wonder that he was a man after God's own heart. The Biblical injunction is, "Kiss the Son lest He be angry." I like to think that desiring Him before coffee, before spouse, before radio, before TV, before ANYTHING else is like a sweet morning kiss to Him. Would I be out of line to suggest that we all, "seek Him early," and get what He has been waiting all night to give us?

PRAYER: Thank You, Father for watching over us as we sleep, knowing that You neither slumber nor sleep. You have seen us toss and turn, smile or frown, or whatever else we might have done or dreamed of doing. Thank You for caring so much.
